Sheikh Mohammed Launches Dubai Ecotourism Project
UAE / Dubai News: The project will cover 10 percent of the emirate's territory. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and the ruler of Dubai, launched the Marmoom project on Tuesday, the country's first reserve for the conservation of deserts in the country. The reserve covers 10 percent of the area of Dubai.
With more than 40 hectares of shrub and fertile land, the reserve is home to more than 204 species of native birds, 158 species of migratory birds and more than 10 km of lakes, covering the lake Al-Qudra.
The new project will include 10 sites for observing animals and birds, as well as tents for watching the stars and the sunset, areas for yoga, an open-air theater for 350 people, and a solar-energy complex with a capacity of 5,000 megawatts.
By 2030, it will host more than 20 annual sporting events, which will attract about 20,000 participants.
“Preserving and investing in the environment means preserving and investing in one of our most important assets. The Marmoom reserve is an ecological, tourist and sports supplement to life in the UAE, ”said Sheikh Mohammed.
